Jakarta, July 2025 – The British Council, the United Kingdom’s international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations, formally opens IELTS Prize 2025 inviting individuals from Myanmar, The Philippines, and Indonesia to share their unique pathways to success for a chance to win GBP 1,000 (or Rp 20.200.000 in Rupiah).
The award celebrates the transformative journeys of IELTS test takers and supports individuals from diverse backgrounds in achieving their academic, professional, and migration goals. At least five (5) winners will be selected based on the strength and impact of their personal narratives. Five (5) finalists will also receive GBP 100 or Rp 2.020.000 gift vouchers as recognition of their efforts.
Since its inception in 2011, the IELTS Prize has empowered over 400 individuals across East Asia, helping them unlock global opportunities through financial support and recognition. The 2025 edition continues this legacy by spotlighting the journeys of IELTS test takers who have made significant strides in education, employment, or migration after taking the test with the British Council.
Kania Hairani, one of the IELTS Prize 2023 winners from Indonesia, explained. “Through the IELTS exam, I was able to expand my vocabulary and become comfortable with a wide range of topics and contexts. It also helped me sharpen my academic writing skills, which is essential for excelling in my major, Psychology. Furthermore, the listening and speaking components, which mirror authentic scenarios, made it much easier to communicate confidently in academic, professional, and everyday environments.”
To apply, candidates must:
- Have taken the IELTS test with the British Council between 1 January 2025 and 25 September 2025
- Achieve a minimum overall band score of 4
- Submit a completed application by 30 September 2025
Zoe Zhang, Regional Business Improvement Manager for Southeast Asia said, “Each IELTS taker’s journey reflects the unwavering determination and unique perspectives of individuals striving to achieve their dreams. These stories are powerful reminders of optimism and perseverance, and they serve to inspire others who aspire to follow similar paths. At the British Council, we are deeply moved by the personal experiences shared with us, and these narratives continually motivate us to evolve and strengthen the support we provide.”
